2010 Youth Tour Contest
The Foundation for Rural Service is hosting the 2010 Youth Tour of Washington, D.C., on June 5–9, 2010. This year Hill Country Telephone Cooperative, Inc. (HCTC) will sponsor two (2) participants on this tour. As a sponsor, the Cooperative will pay all travel expenses (airfare, lodging and meals).
Youth tour participants will receive a first-hand glimpse on the critical role that telecommunications plays in rural America as well as how the legislative and regulatory decisions made in Washington, D. C., affect the operations of local service providers. In addition to the educational component of this trip, youth tour participants will also visit historical landmarks throughout the nation’s capital including the Vietnam, Korean and World War II memorials, the U.S. Capitol, the Supreme Court, Mount Vernon, the Smithsonian Institution, Arlington National Cemetery, and the Lincoln and Jefferson memorials.
Students who wish to enter this competition must meet the following criteria:
1. Parent or legal guardian must be a member of Hill Country Telephone Cooperative, Inc. (subscribe to telephone service);
2. Student must be a Junior in high school;
3. Student must be an active participant in both school and community projects; and,
4. Student must submit an essay (500-word minimum) entitled “Telecommunications: Its Effect on My Future”.
Students who meet these requirements and wish to compete should complete and return this pdf application. Please note that the deadline date is February 26, 2010.
